10:30-11:30 AM: Serving Students & Families in Crisis
Serving students who are struggling with mental health issues is hard. Navigating how to serve them while juggling the concerns of both parents and church leaders is even harder. In this session, Rev. Dr. Steve Norman from Winning At Home will facilitate a discussion around these issues from a strategic, practical, and theological perspective.
12-1:30 PM: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. In this session, Daniel Bechtel-Unekis, LLMSW, M.Div, from Digging Deeper, LLC, will train participants on best practices for responding to a student who is expressing signs of suicidal ideation.
